![]() Bay Meadows San Mateo, California This multi-family housing courtyard project located in San Mateo was designed as an outdoor family room for the building tenants. The resort-like courtyard centers on a fire pit surrounded by a foot bath/fountain and an array of cozy lounge and chair seating. Raised planters with bamboo and accent shrub planting on the ground level provide privacy from the tenants above and adjacent to the courtyard. Lavender planting is carried from the courtyard to the perimeter of the building to create a cohesive landscape. Also at the perimeter of the building, small flowering trees are grouped to correspond to the interior building unit arrangements for visual appeal and privacy. Interrupting the tree and lavender planting, rain gardens collect roof-water runoff and provide visual interest.
