![]() Hangzhou Waterfront Master Plan This master plan project focused on providing a new identity for the City of Hangzhou by dramatically increasing the amount of public open space within its existing central lakefront district. The center piece of the plan was a new pedestrianized street linking residents and tourists alike, from the center of downtown to the lakefront. The proposed pedestrian street was anchored at both ends by two large public plazas over structured parking, connected by a series of pedestrian bridges and streetscape spaces. Additional open space elements running perpendicular to the central pedestrian street included a re-design of the existing lake front promenade, a “Park Avenue” street including enlarged sidewalks and pocket parks, and converting of a series of existing vehicularized alleys into intimate pedestrianized shopping alleys.
