Pier 70 Pier 70, a waterfront industrial zone just south of the now redeveloped Mission Bay is one of the most historical districts in the city and the subject of many redevelopment schemes over the past two decades. This current 121 acre planning study is an effort that seeks to preserve the historical character of the area and bring new vitality and economic life to the district by incorporating residential, office, institutional and maritime uses to the underutilized and environmentally challenged site. The design for the area seeks to extend the existing street grid, preserve the historical buildings, create usable and centrally located open space for locals and create a spectacular waterfront park and marina that addresses the site’s environmental and cultural history as a place for the generation of energy. With this plan, Pier 70 situates itself as a model for the future of industrial waterfront design. Credits Client: Build Inc.
