Sonoma County Residence This U-shaped residence with a central courtyard is nestled within the oak woodlands of Sonoma, California. Inspired by Islamic gardens, the courtyard contains a patterned surface, shade trees, and a simple pool of water intensely planted with lily, rush, and other aquatic plants. Water conservation, passive cooling, and solar orientation are key elements to every aspect of the intervention. Walking along soft paths under the oak trees, you leave civilization behind and happen to come across the house, the steep ravine, the shady olive allee, the rocky meadow, the pool, and the vegetable garden.
